Solomon Northup was born a free man on July 1808 in Minerva,New York USA and died on 1863 at the age of 55. He had a wife named Anne Hampton and 3 kids:Alonzo Northup, Margaret Northup and Elizabeth Northup.

What little free time he had after long days of manual and farm labor, he spent reading books and playing the violin. Though his father was born into slavery, Solomon was born and lived free. Solomon Northup was born in Essex County, N.Y., on July 10, 1807. His father, Mintus, was a former slave emancipated under the terms of owner Henry Northup's will in 1798.
